The Cars of Future

Every new technology is making our life easier. It’s especially true for the automotive industry which is leader in such progress. Let’s study how our travel by car may be safer and more comfortable very soon.
Rear cameras
Rear cameras
US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ordered that all new vehicles must be equipped with rear cameras by 2018. These cameras are able to save 58 to 69 lives per year. As result, manufacturers received chance to replace side mirrors by cameras as mirrors are not necessary now.Airbags are not new for auto safety. Their main task is protecting of driver and passengers from deploying inside car. But some weeks ago CNN announced revolution in airbag industry. Currently researchers at TRW Automotive are developing airbags which can exist outside vehicle. They should absorb main collision before interior frame will be impacted.
Autoliv supplies another kind of airbags. Their device will fit into panel on side of automobile or expand from the top of hood with further extending of lower windshield.
Exterior airbags
Inflation time should be incredible 30 milliseconds. Inventors promise that it’ll reduce impact on interior frame as much as 35%.
Cars that communicate
Cars that communicate
Imagine that while driving you don’t notice stop sign in time but your car hits brakes itself. This may be realistic after communicating function between vehicles introduced. Vehicle-by-vehicle (V2V) wireless communicating system is now tested by some manufacturers and NHTSA with hope to reduce number of car accidents and drivers’ failures.
Meanwhile another technology, vehicle-by-infrastructure (V2I) , is developed too. Vehicles may communicate with infrastructure, such as road signs and propose alternative routes analyzing traffic conditions.
Self-driving cars first appeared on pages of Nosov’s fairy-tale “Neznayka in Solar City”. The passengers chose route and car delivered them to that place. There was only one restriction – the system worked only in city. If passenger wanted to visit country they had to drive car by themselves.
Self-driving car excepts risks of current situation and escapes danger quickly. Besides a lot of drivers want to relax without having to look on road and sit at back seat while moving from point a to point.
Self-Driving
Of course, self-driving vehicle can’t guarantee zero risk of accident, but improvements mean that fatality rates should decrease substantially.
And what is your image of futuristic car?
